On occasion, the Central San Joaquin Chapter has fundraisers and socials which also serve to educate the public about our mission and to increase the number of volunteers, as well as to fund the clinic while also recognizing volunteers with a thank you for volunteering.
Funding efforts in Fresno specifically go to the Liga, International, Central San Joaquin Chapter for services provided at La Victoria, Ocoroni Sinaloa, Mexico. Costs to maintain the clinic, for example, for electricity and repairs average $1,500.00 per year and reimbursement to pilots for fuel per trip averages $1,000.00. In addition we sponsor a few qualifying volunteers, for example a student, who otherwise cannot afford the $350 out of pocket cost per volunteer per trip some of which is to pay the pilot’s fuel costs.
Past special projects that were funded which went beyond building and maintaining La Victoria to expanding the medical clinic to include dental and eye care and a water filtration system built to lessen the on-going parasite infection. Our current 2018 project that needs funding is repairs to the clinic from replacing doors to re-doing plumbing and repairing and painting walls to new charts and office supplies at an estimated cost of $10,800. We also provide plaques to recognize volunteers and those who had made other contributions and if we are having a fundraiser or a social, we need sponsors for those events.

Although, the Central San Joaquin Chapter has arranged in the past for the transfer of a warehouse full of supplies to people in need in Mexico, we are limited as to what can be transported by plane with flight weight limits and government restrictions. We generally transport some limited medications that are non-expired that have to be have to meet specific packaging requirements and, on occasion take crutches, and small gift bags with toothpaste, toothbrushes and soap and glasses and hygiene educational handouts. On rarer occasions, we transport wheelchairs and other medical equipment that often will take the place on the flight of the weight and area allowed on the flight for a volunteer. Contact Maria Torrez for medical related donations at 559-907-7269 (cell).
We also need donations of items, including siltent auctions items at a minimum value of $45.000) to be used for our fundraisers and socials where we increase public awareness of our mission and the need for volunteers. For non-monetary donations and non-medical related donations, contact and Karen L. Lynch, 559-478-4370.
